Dogs & Training
Below are a list of books I recommend. They are BASICALLY in order of recommendation, and included are the ratings. If no puppy head is present, then I have not read the book, nor have I really heard much about it, but thought it could be of interest.

Nicholas, Katherine, 1990. The Book of the Labrador Retriever. TFH Publications. My favorite Labrador Retriever book. Lots of pictures, and lots of educational information.
Howe, Dorothy, 1985, The Labrador Retriever. TFH Publications

Berndt, Meyers, Denlinger, & Watson, 1973 The Labrador Retriever, Denlinger's Publications

Wolters, Richard A. 1988, Water

A good book for the beginning hunter/trainer.

Hill, Gene, 1983, Hunter's Fireside Book: Tales of Dogs, Ducks, Birds & Guns, New Win Publishing.

Ross & McKinney, 1995, Dog Talk, Training your Dog Through a Canine Point of View. St. Martins Pr (Trade) . I've read nearly 25-30 different training books, and none can even touch this one. His methods are similar to my own, making it even more fun to read (Hey, how did they make money off my methods? <G>)
Benjamin, Carol Lea, 1985, Mother Knows Best, the Natural Way to Train Your Dog, Howell Book House.
Another excellent read. Ms. Benjamin does a superb job of teaching the basics of how
a mother dog teaches her young, and enables the reader to begin using the methods immediately.
Burnham, Patricia Gail, 1986, Playtraining
Your Dog, St. Martin's Press
Excellent for the dog who hates obedience! I used this method with one of my dogs who thought the recall and finish were BORING, so did it with no flair. Now, 9 years later, her Finish is her BEST exercise!
Bauman, Diane L., 1991, Beyond
Basic Dog Training, Howell Book House
A good book for those competing in obedience, or planning to move beyond the basics.
Benjamin, Carol Lea, 1989, Dog
Problems : A Professional Trainer's Guide to Preventing and Correcting Aggression, Destructiveness, Housebreaking Problems, Excessive Barking, Dogfights, Tugging, Jumping, Shyness, Stealing, Begging, Car Chasing, Fear Biting, Object Guarding, and
much,much more, Howell Book House
While I haven't read this book yet, I know Ms. Benjamin's books, and know this has to be great!
Benjamin, Carol Lea, & Lennard, Stephen, 1993, Surviving Your Dog's Adolescence: A Positive Training Program, Howell Book House
Benjamin, Carol Lea, 1988, Dog Training for Kids, Howell Book House
Excellent book for getting the kids involved in dog ownership and responsibility.
Vollhard, & Fisher, 1986, Teaching Dog Obedience Classes: The Manual for Instructors, Howell Book House EXCELLENT book whether teaching classes or not. The theory in this book teaches the reader more than how to teach classes or obedience exercises. It teaches the basics of dog psychology, and why dogs are what they are.

Woodhouse, Barbara, 1994,
Barbara Woodhouse on Training your Dog, Seven Hills Book Distributors
